The Patriots first selection of the 2017 NFL draft went down Wednesday afternoon during a joint practice with the Texans and it's feared that he may be lost for the season.
Derek Rivers was expected to pick-up some of the defensive snaps that recently retired Rob Ninkovich would have had. Soon after Rivers went down to the camp turf in West Virginia he was sent back to New England for more tests, but preliminary results were not promising, and the team fears it may have lost him for the season.
Rivers was said to be having an impressive camp thus far, but it appears that his days in this years' training camp are over. Hopefully the results of the further tests will come back without the defensive end requiring season-ending surgery, but for the time being the team will have to prepare for the possibility of a season without their #2 right defensive end.
