Once the Patriots signed free agent Cam Newton the odds of Stidham starting in week-1 vs the Dolphins took a big hit. Day-2 of padded practices in Foxboro didn't help either.
Stidham was 8-for-11 with three INT's in his portion of 11-on-11 drills.
Newton went 9-for-11 and two of the incompletions were credited to drops.
Newton's only true miss was a deep middle throw that sailed past Damiere Byrd.
Stidham also did have what was thought to be the best throw of the day when he hit Byrd on a timing route that was well anticipated and perfectly thrown. He also hit Mohamed Sanu and a well-placed throw down the right sideline to close-out the practice.
He was also said to look good other than those three errant and ill-advised throws to the defense. He had the liveliest arm and some of the most accurate throws of the three QB's, which also included Brian Hoyer.
Hoyer has also been described as the most consistent QB over the past two days, which makes sense considering his familiarity in the system, only missing two of his 11 throws during Tuesday's practice.
This QB battle is still very early and a lot can happen over the next few weeks, but for now if throwing the football to a defense is intolerable to an NFL coach it would appear that Newton would get the nod as the #1 guy so far.
