Vidauntae "Taco" Charlton Making The Most Of His Opportunity With The Cowboys
August 14, 2017
The Cowboys need help on their defensive line and rookie defensive end Taco Charlton showed that he could be a breath of fresh air to a depleted group.
Currently missing in action for the Cowboys' front four are:
DE Damontre Moore - Suspended for 2 games
DE David Irving - Suspended for 4 games
DE DeMarcus Lawerence - Dealing with nagging back issues
DT Cedric Thornton - Hamstring injury but could be back for the season opener
DE Tyrone Crawford - Sprained ankle. Could be back before camp ends.
Charlton recorded a sack, had three tackles, a tackle for loss and a quarterback hurry in his 19 snaps he played in the teams 2nd preseason game against the Rams.
After not recording any stats in the teams first preseason game Charlton quieted some of the doubters that were questioning the teams decision to pass on DE TJ Watt in last April's draft.
Watt had two sacks (although the easiest 2 he'll probably ever get), one batted pass, five QB pressures and five tackles in the Steelers first preseason game.
This video shows what the Cowboys were looking for when the drafted Charlton with the 28th overall pick in last years draft.
He has the size, length and athletic ability to be a great pass rusher, but inconsistency has been his biggest issue. If he can play hard on every snap he's on the field for he has the pedigree to make the decision to pass on Watt a great one. Only time will tell, but right now he's doing his part to make the Cowboys a lot better at the line of scrimmage than they were last year.
